People from all walks of life and from many different countries, including Tibetans, are increasingly making use of our collections. Due to absence of a good facility, we have not been able to reach them in a wider way and as its necessary. To make the vast resources in our archive available to the public, it is must to have a separate viewing and listening lab to make the above services available. |

Currently all the collections (over 2,7000 hours of recording) in our archive are kept open on the wooden shelves risking the danger for fire and water, dust and distortion, climatic fluctuations and the high monsoon humidity. To save the collections, we are in urgent need for a standard storage system: ‘Godrej MobiStack or compactor (Shelving of a Documentary Storage)’. This new facility will not only ensure the safety of the collections in the archive but will also achieve efficient archival system. |

At present we have over 50 films of 16mm in our archive shot in 70s & 80s, capturing the Tibetan life in exile during that period. These films have some of the rare footage of the early life in exile and digitalizing them will make the valuable footages available to a wider audience and will enrich the collection of that period. Due to lack of financial resources, we have not been able to digitize them so far and with this grant, we would be able to digitize the much necessary rare footages captured in these old films. |
