JOB VACANCY - Assistant Research and Translation Officer (Science Project)

The Library of Tibetan Works & Archives and Emory University will jointly hold a month-long science workshop to launch its first year curriculum of a five-year comprehensive science education for monastic institutions this summer. We are recruiting two Assistant Research & Translation Officers for this program.

The responsibilities of the officers are :

•  Translation of scientific materials from English to Tibetan.

•  Oral translation for the western science teachers during workshops.

•  To assist in overall organization and execution of the workshops.

JOB VACANCY - Translation of Scientific Materials into Tibetan

Responsibility:

Their primary responsibility of the selected candidate will be translation of scientific materials into Tibetan. And during the workshop they will need to do oral translation for the western science teachers and also they have to assist in overall organization and execution of the workshops.

TRANSLATOR IN RESIDENCE

The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India seeks expressions of interest for the position of Translator in Residence

The library wishes to provide living and working space for a dynamic, up-and-coming translator. The new translator-in-residence program will offer a supportive working environment within this premier centre for Tibetan studies, under the directorship of eminent translator Geshe Lhakdor.

Details of the relationship between translator and library are open to negotiation. It is imagined that the library will publish works translated during the residency. Research support and special library access will also be offered. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in the annual Translation Workshop and to consult with and offer consultation to library staff and students. The library looks forward to a long and fruitful association with its future translators in residence.

We seek your help in our humble attempt to build a comprehensive collection of literature on Tibetan and Himalayan studies. Many books published in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are no longer in print. And many recent books published overseas are not easily available in India .
